Welcome
Over the last six months the cast of Black
Coffee have been working hard to develop ideas, create choreography
and learn more about 1950s music, fashion and social issues. But
we've also been busy planning events to promote and raise funds for
the Fringe Festival premiere of the production. The next few weeks
in particular are very busy with two performances in Rundle Mall on
Friday 28 November and Friday 5 December and two sausage sizzles on
Saturday 22, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November. We've also recently
had an AGM which has brought new blood - new enthusiasim, skills, experience
and networks - into the organisation, and we've also said thank you
and good luck to some valuable people.

Classes dance classes survey
As you may know, I want to be able to offer
dance classes for people with different needs, different levels of experience
and different interests. Before scheduling a program of classes,
I'd like to hear from you about what you're interested in.
To share your thoughts, please complete a
short survey available at http://www.movethroughlife.org.au/training.htm
I have already received a number of surveys
thanks to Melissa Jan at The Sanctuary, who has been collecting surveys
from her clients.
The Sanctuary offers remedial sports and
relaxation massage, traditional Thai massage, reiki and reflexology.
If you drive down Brighton Road a lot, you may have noticed The Sanctuary
at 354b Brighton Road, Hove. You can contact Mel on 8296 7512
or melissajan@optusnet.com.au
Mel is a graduate of the tertiary dance program
in Adelaide, so she understands the dancer's needs and issues.

I have decided to focus on my role as artistic
director and general manager, and Kirsten Alexander very kindly offered
to take on the role of chair. I will continue to be the organisation's
secretary.
treasurer
Leigh Hodgkiss has resigned from the board
and the position of treasurer, but has offered to continue as book
keeper. I wish to express my sincere thanks to Leigh for her
contribution to the board and particularly for the progress she has
made in managing the MTL finances.
Michelle Hughes has accepted the position
of treasurer, and Leigh and Michelle will work together to continue
managing our finances.
operational committee members
thank you and good luck
I offer my whole hearted thanks to Brooke
Williams for her efforts on the MT operational committee over the
last couple of years - particularly for coordinating our very
successful movie fundraiserin June. Brooke has resigned from
the committee because she moved to the Gold Coast. She is now
the administrative officer - lotteries for the Mater Foundation, the
philanthropic and community arm of Mater Health Services and th Mater
Medical Research Institute, harnessing corporate, community and individual
support to help ensure the half a million babies, children and adults
treated each year in Mater hospitals have access to exceptional care
welcome
While we will miss Brooke, we are very
lucky to have two new people to help fill the gap. Louise Durrans
and Chelsea Nickels have both joined the operational committee.
Louise has attended two meetings and has hit the ground running taking
on organisation of another movie fundraiser, developing partnerships
with vintage clothing shops for Black Coffee and organising MTL branded
t-shirts. Chelsea will attend her first meeting in December.
annual report
The annual report for the 2007-08 year
is now available on our website at www.movethroughlife.org.au/publications.htm. The
annual report gives a snapshot view of what we've achieved over the
last twelve months, as well as an insight to Black Coffee, which will
premiere in March 2009 at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
strategic plan
Over the last twelve months the board has
been working on our first strategic plan, which was presented at the
AGM in October. We are currently incorporating feedback from a result
of that presentation and plan to release the three-year plan in February
2009.
You can view a powerpoint overview of the
draft plan on our website at www.movethroughlife.org.au/publications.htm (you

dance manifesto
Ausdance National and The Australia Council
for the Arts have recently released a dance manifesto "Dance Plan 2012".
The manifesto is available from www.ausdance.org.au and www.australiacouncil.org.au.
The manifesto was written in consultation
with the dance sector. It identifies four ambitions for 2012,
each accompanied by a list of achievable objectives that reflect the
diversity and dynamism of dance in our communities. But they require
our energy and attention to ensure that dance, as an artform and an
enjoyable form of recreation for all, remains at the heart of Australian
life.
The manifesto states that by 2012 we will
have:
The dance manifesto is designed to create a shared direction for those involved in the dance industry and to help them convince others of the importance of dance to Australian life.
